Greetings to our St. Jude Chapel Community, We are looking forward to seeing you over the weekend as we celebrate not only the 4th Sunday of Advent (Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. – with NO 11:30 a.m. Mass) but also Christmas Eve with Masses at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. (and carols starting at 20 minutes before. Arrive early.). We will also have our Christmas Mass on Monday at 9:30 a.m. – NO 11:30 a.m. Mass).
We cannot thank you enough for your ongoing support and presence here at St. Jude Chapel. We hope that you will have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year if we do not get to see you the rest of the year. As a reminder, we have placed our year-end schedule for your convenience in our lobby, on our website and on our Facebook page (follow us at https://www.facebook.com/StJudeChapelDallas).
We are pleased to provide you with an update on our Project 55+ repairs and enhancement initiative. To date, we have raised $85,000 which includes a grant from The Catholic Foundation in the amount of $42,000, $5,450 from North Texas Giving Day and $1,710 from #iGiveCatholic. During the past few months, we have completed the following items:
Repaired the exterior wall and then cleaned and painted it. We also painted the underside of the mural and removed the outdoor speakers.
Exposed the skylight window in the front stairwell and outfitted with a sleeve that matches the stairwell (this provides more light for those using the stairwell). We have also had the stairs filed and evened out, so it is not a trip hazard.
Repaired the transitions in the back stairwell to prevent any tripping. We also replaced the emergency exit carpet with new carpet (also to prevent tripping). There were also a couple of more transitions that were upstairs that needed to be finished out.
The AED has been hung in the lobby with care. Please make sure that there is always direct access to it. Be sure to familiarize yourself with where it is and how to get to it just in case.
Thanks to a generous volunteer, the carpets have been cleaned just in time for Christmas (and the 4th Sunday of Advent). We will not allow any drinks into the chapel for a long, long time to keep them clean.
The two vents in the upstairs restrooms have been replaced with working motors.
The interior lights of the chapel have been switched out for newer more efficient LED bulbs and the bulbs at the statues and mosaics have been switched out for bulbs that fit the fixture (no more bulbs that stick out)! You may have also noticed the lights on the ambo(s) that have been outfitted with different bulbs and moved to provide more light for the readers and cantors.
There were a couple of light fixtures that needed repair as there were electrical shortages (Infant Prague and the Sacristy). Our sitting room now has lighting too although the lamps provided such a mood.
In January, you will begin to see work on the first major project of P55+ - the repairs and outfitting of the pews for wheelchairs, strollers and walkers and the installation of automatic door openers for two sets of doors. The entire last pew of the middle section and the last pew of the first section by “Regina Mundi” will be pulled out. If anyone would like to donate to take them – a piece of St. Jude Chapel history – we are open to the idea. Please reach out to me to let me know if you are interested.
For all those who are supporting our P55+ efforts, THANK YOU so much for your generosity! It is because of you; we can get several of our items done. Our year-end letters will be going out the 2nd and 3rd weeks of January 2024. Once you receive yours, please be sure to check the amount. If it does not match your records, please reach out to me and I will reissue a new one.
Again, thank you so much for your generosity in support of our beloved St. Jude Chapel.
lease be sure to review the year-end schedule and get back to me, Anna (gift shop), Emily, Cynthia (volunteers), Mary Lou (mass requests) or Fr. B. with any questions.
We remain in service to you and the St. Jude family!
Thank you!
