For those who were with us in early January, you all heard Fr. B’s big news that he will retire this year. June 30th will be his last day with us at St. Jude’s. At this time, we do not know who will become the 10th chaplain of St. Jude’s. That announcement will not be known until May or June. We will keep you posted.
Next Wednesday, March 5th, we celebrate the start of the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday. On this day, we will move our liturgies to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to allow time for our guests to exit between liturgies. We will also have a 5:30 p.m. liturgy with music. We hope you will consider joining us. There will not be any ashes distributed outside of the three liturgies. Stations of the Cross begin March 7th at 11 a.m. and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (First Friday) will be at 10 a.m.
As you know we have been busy the last two years making necessary repairs, enhancements, and improvements here at the Chapel under the heading Project 55+. We are now adding a major project to our list – our fire sprinklers need to be replaced. We have discovered that about seventy-one of the nearly one hundred fire sprinklers throughout the Chapel have been painted over. The City of Dallas Fire Marshall's office has informed us that this is a major priority to address. Since the fire sprinklers are more than 50 years old, we thought it was best to replace them all. After the replacement, we will patch up the ceiling and repaint. We will begin this project after Easter and hope to do it in a way that is the least disruptive to our regular schedule. Please be on the lookout for more information on this project.
A couple of weeks ago, we notified our weekend guests that Jack Boles Parking announced a rate increase starting February 1 at the DalPark Garage 1600 Commerce St. – the first hour is now $5 (up from $2) and each additional hour is still $2. We have entered into an agreement with DalPark that St. Jude Chapel will validate our guests’ parking for up to two hours. Thank you for your understanding.
On Tuesday,June 3rd, we will host a surprise event for Fr. B. Billed as “Dinner and a Show with Fr. B.” we will celebrate his 75th birthday and his 49th anniversary as a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Dallas. Of course, it is a bittersweet fiesta as we too acknowledge his retirement. The event will be from 6 to 9 (maybe 10) p.m. More information – including an EvenBrite sign up – will be forthcoming.
Thank you for your continued support and your presence here at St. Jude Chapel.
Regards,
